I recently re-read the Constitution. Always some interesting nuggets. Here's some food for thought from Article I, Section 8:
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States;
That is very interesting to read directly from the Constitution, especially with people talking about the new President being a socialist!
It is interesting. Although I have a feeling I’m taking it differently than many others. I think that the phrase “common welfare” clearly leaves the door open for such “socialist” programs as schools, universal healthcare and other programs. After all, isn’t socialism supposed to be about providing for the common welfare?
