Memorial Day

Memorial Day is one of those holidays that it seems a little weird to say “Happy” in front of. We are meant to remember the dead — especially the military dead. We fly flags and watch parades and feel generally patriotic.

But, maybe, for some part of the day we should take a few minutes to contemplate the lost lives and feel solemnly thankful. After all, there are plenty of brave soldiers who don’t get the day off, and don’t enjoy the same holidays we do. We should be grateful to them, as well as to the honored dead.
